Description: A marsh plant with a creeping, up to 8 mm thick rhizome. This plant's long-stemmed dark green, lanceolate shaped leave blades are less than 5 times as long as wide. The leaves are 1.5-9 cm wide, and 6-21 cm long. The petioles are 30-35 cm long. Like most Anubias species, this plant grows well partially and fully submersed and the rhizome must be above the substrate, attached to rocks or driftwood. Like other Anubias species, this plant is hardy and relatively undemanding. Most herbivorous fish also tend to leave Anubias plants alone as it has very tough and robust leaves, so it could be a good choice for an African Cichlid or a Goldfish aquarium. It can be kept under low light conditions, but unfortunately this is a very slow growing plant, making its leaves prone to algae. This Anubias likes a certain level of water circulation for optimum growth. In submersed conditions this variety usually remains low in height, whereas plants in emersed cultivation can reach a height of about 60 cm. The usual growth rate is 4-8 leaves per year.

Propagation of Anubias barteri var. glabra is relative easy with rhizome division.
