  • Biotope: Inhabits in the shallow, relatively still parts of rivers with dense aquatic vegetation over the sandy substrate.
  • Social behavior: Peaceful schooling fish, can be kept witn other small and peaceful species.
  • Diet: Omnivorous; will accept live, frozen and dried foods.
  • Breeding: Not successful in aquaria.
  • Tank: Minimum 50 litres
  • Population: 5-6 fish for 50 litres
  • Decoration: Use a sand or fine gravel substrate. Plant dense vegetation and use floating plant cover to dim the lighting. The water movement should be gentle.

Description: The body coloration is generally silver or yellow with 14-18 distinct black vertical bars on the body. The belly is white, the fins are transparent. Hovering Zebra Loaches are sensitive when first imported, so ensure that the tank is mature.

It’s hard to tell the difference between sexes, but females probably plumper, especially when full with eggs. Unfortunately there are currently no reports of Hovering Zebra Loach breeding in the home aquarium.
