Description: This unusual floating plant spreads by progressive forking and produces a dense clump of separate plants that float on the aquarium surface. It is hardy and adaptable and can be kept in most aquarium conditions, including both unheated and warmer tropical aquariums. Once estabilished, it can spread rapidly and will need occasional thinning. Riccia belongs to the Livewort Family and is one of only two known aquatic species of liverworts. The plan body, or thallus, is made up of bright green ribbon-shaped growths that fork frequently to form thick balls that float just below the surface of the water, that's why it is considered an excellent spawning location for labyrinth fish. It can also provide juvenile fish with safe protection from enemies. If the plants are cultured on a moist substrate, wider and shorter thalli will develop.
