Description: If planted in groups, this attractive and interesting aquatic plant will take on a hedgelike appearance. Good lighting and an available source of iron are essential if it is to remain healthy. In very strong lighting, the uppermost leaves will turn red, giving the plant an attractive rusty look. It prefers a fine substrate. Place any cuttings in sand or a small-grade, lime-free substrate. Once cuttings have been taken, the plant produces side shoots that increase the bushy appearance. The plant does not do well in hard water.

Didiplis diandra is a demanding, sensitive, light-requiring aquarium plant. The aquarium's light intensity will only be high enough once the leaves on the shoot apex are reddish in color and the minute flowers start developing. Soft to medium-hard water with additional CO2 fertilization is recommended to ensure healthy growth. Optimum temperature range is 22-26 °C, but may be temporarily higher. To ensure rapid root formation, a fine substrate rich in nutrients is suitable. The dainty habitus will have an effect only if the plant is arranged in groups. Every shoot, however, has to be individually planted since they break easily and will also rot at the lower stem under insufficient lighting. It is a magnificent contrast plant for the aquarium's middle area. Multiplication is through lateral shoots. The plant will react very sensitively to algae infestation and chemical additives.
